I've been trying to get the Apple sample USB program to compile under
10.4.2 and Xcode 2.1 ... it won't ... there is an error -
AppleUSBCDCSampleDriver.cpp:1259: error: invalid conversion from 'const
IOUSBDescriptorHeader*' to 'IOUSBDescriptorHeader*'
also problem with thread - AppleUSBCDCSampleDriver.cpp:3078: error:
invalid conversion from 'void (*)()' to 'void (*)(void*, wait_result_t)'

anyone got any suggestions?

{Pops out of vacation mode...}

Try switching back to the gcc 3.3 compiler.  4.0 is a lot pickier about
syntax (as you've discovered).  Of course the sample may need info.plist
tweaking for Tiger (to use the kpi's, e.g. com.apple.kpi.iokit) or it
may not (I have mixed experience with this).

Good luck!

Cheers,
H.
