launch hidden application

I have a program on Windows which automates routine work. It makes use
of different applications through COM technology (e.g. converting
Postscript files to PDF through Acrobat Distiler) and it doesn't
actually launch the application.

I know it is possible to write AppleScript to launch the Distiller, but
I wonder is it possible to run an application in hidden state? I don't
want even splash screen to be displayed.

Many thanks in advance,
Konstantin

Naah, just let it display.  Alternatively, launch it yourself and then
hide it before running the AppleScript.

But you don't even need Distiller under OS X.  Just use Preview which
can both open PS files and save them to PDF.

Simon.
