Importing pictures

Recently, I have a problem with importing graphics (saved as jpeg
files) generated from Canon's Photostitch.

These JPEG Image graphics were created 6 months ago.  Now, oddly, some
images can be imported, while others just turns up as a totally black
image.

Finder's 'get info' function confirms graphics are jpeg files, but for
some reason under Powerpoint's 'Insert/Picture/From File', they all
show up 'Kind: Document'.

Notwithstanding, some files can be imported and others cannot.  There
does not appear to be any relation with date created or file size.

Recently created Photostitch files cannot be imported at all.

I tried opening these files in other applications such as Photostudio,
Graphics Converter, saving them as either of these file types and
importing to Powerpoint, to no avail.  Past Photostitch files modified
and saved as Photostudio can still be imported.
Can someone help with this problem please?

Try saving them as PNG or resaving as JPG under a new name.

I have found PNG to be the best format for Powerpoint. However, some of my
students seem to be able to prove me wrong. ;-)

Sometimes the the images don't show up and I find that one has to keep the
images in the same folder as the PPT file to maintain a link, even when my
students did not link them.

Endlessly inventive, aren't they?

I don't quite understand.  How can maintaining a link be a problem when no
link's been created?
