When I get .pptx files in emails I cannot open them. I can see them in quick view. You should apply all updates in succession until there are no more updates to install. One of the updates will allow Office 2004 to open the new file format. The problem still persists. IIRC, the 11.5.0 update enabled menus access to opening OXML files if the converter is installed, but I don't believe the Converter was actually supplied by way of AutoUpdate...
