I created a few PowerPoint files on my Mac, and saved them as ppt (PowerPoint 97-2004). However, my colleagues that use Windows report they can not edit the text on the slides - they come as pictures! Is there a solution for this? What kind of compatibility is this?

Is it plain text or do you use any of the newer "eye-candy" formatting that
wasn't available in earlier PPT versions?  When you use features that earlier
versions don't support, PPT tries to maintain visual fidelity by converting
the feature to something that the earlier version can display, if not edit.

Sounds like that's what's happening here.
