I want to rotate an equation object 90 deg so it can be  the label for
a y axis on a graph.  When I select it and try the rotate menu under
the draw toolbar, it is greyed out.  If I try from the menu format/
object/ size tab, the rotate box is not accessible. I have also tried
grouping it with another object that is allowed to rotate, but to no
avail.

Hi,

I never noticed that before.

There's at least two ways. Neither is especially great.

Right click (control-click) the equation object. Choose Ungroup. Then
immediately Right click again and re-group.  This might make the object less
attractive in appearance, but you can rotate it.

Alternatively, Right click and Save As Picture. Then use Insert > Picture >
From File, or use the insert picture button on the drawing toolbar to bring
the saved picture back in.
