I have recently switched to a new MacBook and loaded the office 2004
software.  My old power point files, which were made in old office
versions, but which used to open OK in my old system, appear as
a corrupt when I try to open them in my new Mac.  Only the one
that were made with Office 2004 can open.  Those made with
previous office version do not.

Any solution for this problem?

Thanks

Hi,

I know PowerPoint 2004 can open PowerPoint documents made in PowerPoint 97
and later both mac and windows.

Do you think your files are older than that?

Some are made in office 98

I used to have in my older mac system 9 classic with OS-X;
and used to have the old version of office on the Mac.

However, the old mac crashed.

The new MacBook does not allow classic 9 in it.

But I have many files worth of 100s of hours of work
which I may need from time to time.

The other files, words and excels, open fine with the new
mac.  Only the power point files give me troubles.

The application tries to open it, then the message come:
The file may be corrupt, in use, or of a type not recognized by
PowerPoint.

I see the first slide in the preview small window.  But unable
to open the file.

I hope you can help!

Ordinarily, there should be no problems opening PPT 98 files in 2004.

Have a look here:
Mac: How do I recover corrupt or unreadable PowerPoint presentations?

And at the entries below this:
