Word object: Text does not match Word file

I have learned that I cannot retain the formatting of text between
Word and Powerpoint unless I paste a "Word Object". So I format my
text it Word, select it, then Paste into Powerpoint with n active text
box. The text pastes in with formatting. I can only edit the text by
double-clicking and editing in Word.

But wait, the formatting is not intact. Tabs do not line up, letter
spacing is inconsistent and whonky in the PP file, and bulleted text
does not line up.

See this:

So, does this mean I can't even get this feature to work? s
Powerpoint, basially, unusable?

Hi,

If the text does not need to be editable from PowerPoint you could use PDF.

In Word use File > Print and click the PDF button in the printer dialog box.

In PowerPoint treat the PDF as a picture Insert > Picture > From File.

It does need to be edited. If it didn't need to be edited by others
I'd use something less painful, like InDesign or sepuku.

Hi,

Thanks for the link with the screen shot. I see what you mean and was able
to reproduce the problem with a Word document.

The Word document in this case is called an embedded document. The process
it uses is called OLE (Object Linking and Embedding). Powerpoint displays a
rendition of the first page of an embedded Word document.

Unfortunately, as you have observed, the placeholder picture is not a
perfect rendition of the embedded Word document. I don't think there's a
simple way around this, or even a complicated one for that matter.
