Hi Rob,
It's always risky to answer questions when I am half-asleep.
Anyway, I think if on slide 1 you use Insert > Sound > From File and
when prompted you select to play automatically. Then Control-Click on
the little speaker icon and choose Custom Animation and choose Play.
I think that's all there is to it, but I could have forgotten a step.

When you're in the Custom Animation dialog, select the sound in the right
hand pane, and then click the "Effect Options" button. Then, click the
"Media Options" tab. Under "Stop Playing", choose "After 999 slides", and
click OK to both dialogs.
