The only compression option is PowerPoint>Preferences>Save, bottom of
page checkblock. Format>Picture>Size>Best scale for slide show may work
for you, too.
Afraid you can't find the "picture album" feature 'cause it isn't
there!

I don't believe the option to compress images is available on the mac
version of powerpoint.

images into powerpoint here.
