Hello.
I noticed from recent comments about problems with IbookG4 14".
When do they start developing there problems.?
Has there been any problem with the later version uv404xxxxxx.?
The reason why I ask is that, I now own a Ibook G4 14" and playing on
the cautious side at the moment.

I don't remember the model number of mine, but I dropped it off at the Apple
Store yesterday to be repaired. It was diagnosed with a failed logic board
(same symptoms as the iBook G3s that are eligible for the extended service
program at Apple's website). I think that it might be because the frame
isn't strong enough to protect the logic board from flexing beyond its
limits - kind of important when it's a PORTABLE computer...
Anyhow, they have to try to reproduce the party, or at least try to figure
out the cause, before they will replace anything, so here's hoping it fails
for them. Otherwise, I will be very unhappy.

Hi.
My problem with a G4 iBook is, that I can't load the battery while lid
closed. When I shut down the computer it is possible. But in suspend
mode the machine loops in a reboot / fall asleep mode.
Yet I found no solutions. I don't even know whether it's the iBook or OS
X Panther.
Greetings

i just got a PB G4 and want to upgrade the RAM. I see that a tiny Phillips
screw has replaced infamous Torx. Where can you find these? In addition to
the 00 Phillips, I am wondering if there is any difference in power usage
with the various ram chips. Does anyone have a recommendation for a good
source for the RAM (PC2700 DDR 333 SO-DIMM) and the screwdriver?
Thanks,
Grady

I don't know about power consumption, but I've always used Crucial
successfully (both PC and in my TiBook G4). They're a division of
Micron and have great quality. You can find them at www.crucial.com.
The screwdriver is still a standard size and you should be able to pick
them up at a Sears (Craftsman) or a small electronics hobby shop
usually. If you are into electronics anyway, you can actually pick up a
whole set of small hobby screwdrivers for around $20 to $25 with
Phillips, Torx, and flathead.

It's the iBook. You can't swap batteries while it's asleep: that's a
PowerBook (other than the 12"-I'm assuming that it was omitted for space
reasons) feature.
