I don't know about anyone else, but I'm really bothered by dead pixels
on LCD screens and would be willing to pay a reasonable extra fee to
be able to exchange an Apple computer in case I got one with a dead
pixel. I'd also feel more secure if I could get insurance against
accidental damage, like if I dropped the computer on a hard surface
and it stopped working.

Maybe if enough people sign it, Apple will listen. Besides, if they
offered these options, they'd probably turn a net profit from them.

I'd be stunned if any vendor would be willing to offer insurance against
"a" dead pixel. It would necessarily be an expensive rider, which would
automatically reduce the audience, and that would drive the relative
administrative costs up which would further add to the customer price.

[responding to the opening posting in which the writer complained of dead
pixels on LCD screens.]
I'm now on my fourth Macintosh portable (Lombard, Titanium, PowerBook G4,
MacBook Pro) and none of them had dead pixels. In contrast, my IBM 760 CD
portable arrived with, if I recall correctly, nine dead pixels in a cluster
in a cluster. IBM declined to replace the screen, their replacement
requirement being something like a dozen dead pixels.
