My trackpad does not work when my mouse is disconnected unless I turn
off the "Ignore trackpad when mouse is present" option. However, if I
do that, my trackpad is always active, whether or not the mouse is
plugged in.
The PowerBook worked correctly, so either the MBP is broken or I have a
bad setting somewhere.
I am using a Kensington Mouse and I have Mouseworks installed, but it
knows when the mouse is unplugged, which means the recognition
circuitry/software is working. The MBP doesn't seem to know.

I'm on a MacBook Pro (2.16 GHz Intel Core Duo) and am running Mac OS X
10.4.9. The option to ignore the trackpad when a mouse is present works just
fine.

Yes, but the opposite doesn't.

Robert-
I've used a Kensington USB mouse for several years on various machines,
yet I never installed Mouseworks.
I just plugged it into an available port on a USB-1 hub, and it appears
to be working on this Intel iMac. The only problem is the scroll-wheel
doesn't work. The Apple mighty mouse is still plugged into the keyboard
and working as well. When I unplugged the mighty mouse, there was no
change in the Kensington performance.
Is it possible that your problem is related to a Mouseworks
incompatibility with your MBP?

No. See above.

If your MBP is under warranty, call Apple to ask about the problem.
