I work at a restaurant, and we've had an ipod 30gb model in our lost and
found for several weeks.  No one has called to claim it.

If the owner doesn't come forward, will we be able to give this device to an
employee to use, or is it specifically registered to the owner?

Thanks for your assistance.

Are you interested from the point of finding the owner or from the point
of keeping the iPod?  If the later, you can definitely wipe the device
and keep it.  What you *should* do with any electronic gizmo after a
couple days unclaimed is look on it for contact information, the same
way you'd look in a wallet for an ID.  My iPod contains a text file with
my address and phone number (I'm thinking of putting an audio file of
the same on it, too), and my cell phone has a very obvious Home entry
along with a power on screen that lists a web address.

My youngster had a similar situation, an ipod found at work and no one came
to claim it.

I had her bring it home, borrowed a cable from a neighbour and charged it,
and then we went through it looking for contact info. Thye had not entered
any.

We got a small program off the internet and downloaded the pictures and
looked at them in a larger size. My other youngster noticed a person she
knew and contacted her and we returned the ipod to the owner. The next day,
the mother of the owner gave my youngster a $20.00 reward.

Everyone is happy.

Go to http://www.apple.com and plug the serial number in and see if it
shows up.

Plug it in where?  In the search field?  What good will that do?
