PowerBook G4 17" Screen Upgrade

I have a 1GHz PowerBook G4 17" with a 1440x900 screen. I notice that
later versions had a 17" 1680x1050 screen (Apple Part. 661-3764), and
from pictures of it removed from a PowerBook it looks the same as the
1440x900 screen, right down to the hinges and cables. If I was able to
get a hold of one, is there any reason it wouldn't work if fitted to
my PowerBook?

Yes. You'd have to replace the display support hardware/firmware, too,
most likely.
