..regarding reliability, heat, noise, gen'l operation. I'm using a
PB1400 now and the consensus is that upgrade is
in order. I don't, however, want to lose the *good* qualities of the
1400 in the areas mentioned. Anyone bought
one of these machines used? They seem to be available for around $400
w/ combo drive from ExperCom or
Wegener, neither of whom I have experience with. Any opinions or ideas
appreciated.

I ordered an 800 14" combo from Expercom ($500 back in May or so) for my
dad (they were out of the 800 so they sent a 900). It's a little pokey
at times, but other than that it's an excellent machine (not sure when
processing power will catch up to the OS X gui so it will feel snappy
like the old MacOS anyway). It came with Panther and we put Tiger on
it. Hopefully Leopard will support G3's--you might want to check on
that.
I was also impressed with it's condition--if I recall I think it was
"used" rather than refurbed, but it came like-new, perfect screen too,
so I was impressed with Expercom. I think they give you a 90-day
warranty.
