Apple supply problems??

I recently ordered a new MacBook; it was listed as a 3-day delivery,
because I'd asked for an enhanced spec.

Yesterday - a week after placing the order - I got an email from Apple
saying delivery would be delayed by another three weeks. When I called
their sales line, 'component shortages' were given as the reason...

Has anyone else experienced this? Is it perhaps Apple waiting for a new
supply of non-exploding batteries?

No, they weren't using Sony batteries in the MacBook (or MacBook Pro),
just the earlier PowerBook and iBook models.

The MacBook is apparently in short supply due to higher than anticipated
demand, so you might have just been unlucky and they really are short of
a component needed for your one.

I don't want to get your hopes up, but another possibility is that Apple
might be releasing a new model soon, and because they have run out of
stock for customized machines, you will get an automatic upgrade to the
new model.

The timing would fit in with the recent release by Intel of several new
processor models, but the first models likely to be upgraded are the
ones that have been around longer, i.e. the MacBook Pro, iMac and Mac
Mini. The MacBook has only been available for three months, but could
get a simple upgrade like a new processor.
