i've been getting steadily moree annoyed by how hot my 12" powerbook g4
gets. I end up sweating because even a small part is in contact with my
body. Even when only having textedit running I noticed computer hot and
fan running. turning off wireless fixed this.
I probably should have known this because I knew wireless was a battery
drain but I guess because I kept looking at the activity monitor
searching for clues I didn't think about it.
So if you are getting annoyed by the heat and it's an option you may
want to go back to a wired connection.

I find turning the processor performance to "Reduced" makes it run a
lot cooler.

My PowerBook G4 needs its wireless connection - in the locations I use it
wired connection isn't practicable - while of course one reason for buying
a laptop in the first place was that it's mobile!

So to effectively reduce the heat - an agreed problem - I bought one of
those USB-powered 3-fan mats to go under the PB. It's quiet, and very
efficient; the PB now runs cool, and is still perfectly portable.

The best thing was the incredibly low price of these 3-fan cooling thingys;
mine cost less than 10UKP from eBay, including postage!
