iBook boot problem

Hey all,

Foolishly I didn't get AppleCare with my iBook and now it seems to have
died so I was wondering if anyone could help.

One morning last week I fired it up and checked my e-mail all fine.
Then I powered it down, put it in its protective sleeve, and walked
across town. Then I tried to fire it up again and nothing. It made a
coming to life whir and then didn't do anything. I've tried to fire it
up a few times and I seem to get one of 3 things happen. 1) a whir and
then nothing else 2) a whir and a beep and then nothing 3) lots of fan
activity and nothing else.

I've tried resetting the power management unti with no joy.

Does anyone have any idea what might be up with it? There's no Apple
Store in town so I'd rather see if I can do anything myself before
hopping on a train.

Thanks,

Ed

Check for a correct seated RAM-Module first. Perhaps you dropped the book
to hard somewhere and the module flipped out.

Any sign of video?

How about if you plug in an external monitor?

Try booting your troubled iBook from the Apple CD that came with it.
If the iBook boots from the CD, your hard drive might have failed or
some of the system files may have become corrupt.
