Hi,
I need some advise on buying memory for my powerbook G4 1.5 GHz
(#M9691LLA) 12". I want to buy a 1 gig module, but am confused at which
'brand' to buy. I'm also a bit cheap and don't want to spend more than
$130. I'm debating on SimpleTech value memory for $113 or DMS Memory
(www.datamem.com) for $113. I believe the part I need is: 1GB Module
1GB 200 Pin DDR PC2700 333Mhz 128x64 CL 2.5 SODIMM.
Has anyone have any experience with either memory modules? any
recommendations? Kingston? All comments and suggestions will be
appreciated. thanks!

Don't know about the 2 you mentioned but I have the same G4 and I used
a 1G unit: 1024MB PC2700 DDR SO-DIMM AL12/15/17" from Other World
Computing. It was 127.95 USD last year. Be careful it doesn't spoil
you. You can leave a half dozen graphic programs running and you may
not even notice it;')

thanks. do you notice much difference between 512MB vs. 1.25Gigs?

Where I notice it is in Photoshop, Adobe's Beta of Lightroom and
especially in a Nautical Charting program I use a lot. The chart
program needs to slide sideways from one chart to another carrying a
group of Vecter subcharts as well as a group of Rastar subcharts for
zooming in and out. That's where big memory really helps. Day to day
stuff you probably won't see a difference unless as I mentioned before
you like to multitask with a half dozen different programs running at
once.

ok... that makes sense. I do like multiple programs open at once.
thanks for the info.

about a year and a half ago, I took a PowerMac G4/450MHz system
from 640MB to 1.5GB. It helped a great deal, since I was running
about 10 to 14 apps concurrently.
My "vm_stat 60" pageout values dropped mostly to zero. And
switching between apps improved greatly.

I have a G4 1.67gh using ddr2 ram so bear that in mind. I got a corsair
value select memory modue of the correct specifications and it would not
work. it caused my system to freeze after a short amount of time. I
replaced it with a Transcend chip which has caused me absolutely no
problems. it was a DDR2 PC 4200 and cost 88 dollars from newegg. I
have no idea how much PC 2700 DDR would cost.

I just purchased a 1 gig module from DMS memory for $113. cheapest
certified memory i can find. my unit will only take DDR ram, not DDR2.
I'll report on how this works out tomorrow when I recieve it. thanks
for your input.
