Not really. I would recommend Other World Computing.
Here is what I replaced mine with:
Hitachi Travelstar 7K100
<http://eshop.macsales.com/Catalog_Item.cfm?ID=8229&Item=HIT0A25022>
Significantly faster read/write than the 5400. You will notice the speedup.
The page does claim better shock resistance, but I haven't checked that
empirically :=)
A nice quiet drive, seems to use a little more power than the original, but
not to any overall detriment.

Thanks. The price looks reasonable as well.

I have the 60 gig version of this in my 2003 Tibook. Nice drive. Fast,
quiet, no heat or battery life issues. The trouble is, I've filled it
and now need a bigger drive :).

Maybe the OP needs the 100Gb version:

Any idea on a really good external drive 250 GBs to 1 TBs under $1,000
for editing in Final Cut Pro?

A couple of notes: I can highly recommend Hitachi drives. Have put a
number into TiBooks. It's fairly easy. Apple has the tech info to show
you just how to do it.
As to the unit Gnarlie recommends, a couple of points: Just to be clear
(because there are a whole lot of ID numbers floating around with all
the models of Hitach Travelstar drives), 7K100 is not a 100GB drive;
this is a model class with many capacities. The specific unit Gnarlie
recommends in the link is a 60GB drive. There is a related model number
the E7K100 which is supposed to be reinforced for hard use. It's only a
few dollars more.
While Other World Computing is a perfectly good supplier from whom I
have ordered, for this kind of transaction I prefer ZipZoomFly.
The 7K100 60GB can be found here ($130, free shipping):

The E7K100 60GB can be found here ($137, free shipping):

There are, of course, other capacities available.

Any reason why you prefer them? I tried ordering from them (the price
was reasonable, and I'm underwhelmed:
1. Getting a message that I need to call their customer service at
extension 2100 at their main number.
2. At the main number, I enter 2100 and get a long bit about how I
need to leave a message, and then "I'm sorry, you cannot leave a
message at this extension, since the mailbox is full." and then it
hangs up.
3. I call back and talk to an operator. "Is this about an order
verification? Then you need to talk to our verification department."
"Wait! I tried to call them and the voice mail..." "(interrupting)I'm
transfering your to the order verification department."
4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 several times. Same experience with x2200 as
well (their customer service number).
If I can get someone that I can actually talk to or even leave a
message for, I'll probably cancel the order and find someone who knows
how to actually run a business.

Sorry to hear of your difficulties. This has never happened to me with
ZipZoomFly. I like them because their prices are very good and they (in
my experience) have shipped quickly and reliably.
Maybe it's a temporary glitch in there operations? Maybe a good co. is
going bad? Any idea what might be the issue? I'll assume you're not
pushing the limit on your credit card. Do you have a different billing
address from your shipping address. I had trouble with that (with
another vendor) once a long time ago until I gave my credit card co. a
shipping address for verification as well as my billing address (a PO
box).
Best of luck, and I hope you will keep us posted on the outcome.

A warning about ZipZoomFly. They never sent me a rebate request I made and I
was unable to talk to them about it. I almost never have any rebate issues
despite the many I use. In addition to ZipZoomFly, only Sears gave me
rebate-headaches.

Well, after a day and a half I finally got to talk to someone to get
things straightened out, and now the disk itself is here.

Just got this installed.
I have to say, the increase in speed and the incredible decrease in
drive noise are nice. We'll have to see how much more power (if any)
it draws than the original Toshiba MK6021GAS (which, now that I've
taken it out, sounds a little more "loose" than a hard drive should.
