Hello.  I am contemplating buying a wonderful G3 I book. So far I
really love it.  However, the right shift key doesn't change the letter
to a capital one.  I suppose I could learn to use only the left one,
but does anyone know if this is usual or if there is a fix for it.  I
tried creating some macros and had a partial success with getting the
key to make capital letters.

Thank you so much for reading this and for any help you can give.

That is very unusual.
The possibilities are broken A Hardware, B software
suggested tests:
Bring up the keyboard viewer. It might be on the menu bar as one of the
language (flag) menu items or you might need to wake it from system
preferences->international-> input menu.

See if the display in keyboard viewer is the same for the left and
right shift key. That might help decide A or B. If it does nothing,
blame the hardware. If it shades, but the rest of the 'keyboard' does
something other than turn into uppercase, then some spooky software has
snuck onto your machine. There are all kinds of keyboard mapping things
out there. One may have gone feral.

For confirmation, try booting from the install or recovery CD.
(hold down C while restarting the machine with the CD inside.)

I'd be guessing the machine has been for a swim recently.
