I have been having problems ever since I installed microsoft word on my
12" dual usb ibook.  First it couldn't find an os so I had to reinstall
from the system disc (I think it was os 10.2 but am not positive) and
in the process wiped out my entire itunes library - still don't know if
that is recoverable - any suggestions?  Within a short time my current
problem appeared which is that once I turned it on, it searched
forever, never started up but never produced an error message of any
kind either, and then I discovered I can't turn it off. The screen is
dark and there is no response to any key or combination of keys. I
don't want to unplug it for fear that I may cause more problems, so it
is sitting on its side (for cooling purposes) waiting for a solution.
Is it time to take it in to a mac repair shop?  It's out of warranty.
