If the OP's PB does have a card slot, third party cards 'just work' too.
I got a cheap belkin card (about 20 UKP) for my old Lombard G3 running
OS X 10.3.x, and it started working immediately. No problems whatsoever,
and on my network set up at home (in addition to the Lombard, a 12" G4
powerbook with airport and a belkin wireless router) it works perfectly.

sometimes - it depends what chipset is in the card. some cards
(broadcom chipset + osx) will 'just work' and the rest will need
drivers.
