I just got an ipod shuffle, and it came with a software CD. It says to
install the software before connecting the ipod to your computer, but
is this necessary on my PowerBook? I'm running Tiger, and I've done all
the recent software updates. I'm hesitant (I'm sure for no reason) to
install more stuff if it's unnecessary.
Thanks for any advice anyone can offer.

No you should be fine without it. If you have kept up to date then you
install disk will have an older version of software anyway.

I think if you have iTunes you don't need anything else. I have an
iPod and I've never installed any software -- don't need it. It's
already there as part of your regular system.
In general, I don't use install disks since the software/drivers on
them are usually out of date. Always go to the vendor's site --
including Apple's -- for the most up-to-date stuff.
