hi all,

i am new to the group.  sorry if this has been discussed already.  i
did a search and all i could find was instructions on how to clean the
screen.  my question doesn't have to do with how to clean the screen,
but how do you clean the areas on either side of the trackpad?  is
there a light cleaner that might help?  after only 2 months of use,
that area is already darker in color.  it's like a greyish color where
my hands rest.  any suggestions on what to use to clean this up would
be greatly appreciated.

thanks, hyejin

Have you tried a dampened cloth? That's what apple recommends in the
iBook manual.

Let 'indiana' be a 'noln', and 'hoosiers' be a 'solkk'.
Leave only the 'noln' and .edu after the @ to reply .

They grey is likely grease from your palms... Tried washing lately...:-)

Seriously, use a mild detergent solution & it should come off. But use
only sparingly & avoid having that stuff get inside the 'book or the
keyboard; it could wreak major havoc in the electronics.

Window cleaner - spray, not creme can work wonders. As the cleaner is
alcohol based it shouldn't cause any short-circuiting as long as you
clean with the Mac powered off - give it a good half hour before turning
it back on.

It may be obvious, but sparay the cleaner on the paper towel, NOT the
ibook. Standard Windex works well for me.

I think this depends on the chemistry of your sweat/oils.

I get this grey stuff on the palm rest and it doesn't come off with:
   windex
   dish detergent
   alcohol
   just plain water
   white board cleaner
   ...

I finally gave up and put some giant stickers on the palm rests. The
stickers have a smooth surface that can be wiped easily. They also hide
the stains. My problem is that after getting dirty and being cleaned,
parts of the palm rest reflect light differently. I'm not sure if this
is because the plastic is worn down in some parts compared to others or
some residue from, but in any case, there are "spots" on the palm rests
when viewed at a shallow angle.

Now, my problem is finding stickers that look nice.

Have you tried the ones that came with your album of Dark Side Of The
Moon?

Hmm... none in the CD case.

The LP was a hand-me-down from my brothers... stickers long gone.

 Shucks.
