All of a sudden my new iBook doesn't want to go to sleep when I close
the lid, but it falls into sleep when I open the lid after noticing that
the sleep mode hasn't started. It doesn't do that regularly and has
begun this since I hooked a TFT monitor to it, but this strange
behaviour occurs with the monitor hooked or not. Is this a known bug?

I had that happen on an original G4 iBook.  Took it in under warranty
and they replaced some parts (the top case, I think) to fix it.  Give
Apple a call or stop by an Apple store; that's not normal.
