Wallstreet, 10.2.8, two darkness problems:
1.  On startup (it didn't do this with original 10.2) after a point
early in the booting up, it futzes with the screen, and since the update
to 10.2.8 the illumination is off from that point on, and stays off
until booting is just about complete and I poke the brightness rocker
button.  Then it comes on.
2.  If I put it to sleep the illumination stays off, period.

Have you searched the archives of '...portables'? I think this issue has
been discussed.

Let 'indiana' be a 'noln', and 'hoosiers' be a 'solkk'.
Leave only the 'noln' and .edu after the @ to reply .

First off, reset your PMU and see if that clears up the problem.  It
cleared up the problem when my wallstreet exhibited the same behavior.

It's a known problem.  Reboot into OS 9, sleep the computer then reboot
into X.

Cool.  That did it -- sorta.  In 9 when I put it to sleep and then woke
it up, it was catatonic: the lights came on but that's all.  So I
spragged it (ctrl-cmd-start) and then zapped (opt-cmd-P-R) when it came
up, and that took care of both 9 and X sleep, as well as the lighting up
on boot.

BTW 'PMU' is not in X help.  So maybe there's a method in X but I'm
still in the dark about that approach.

There are other oddities but a fresh post for them.  OK, oddities, line
up in alphabetical order by height.

Put "reset PMU" in the search box at Apple support.  It's a useful
troubleshooting procedure to know but is done differently on the
different PB models.
