I've added an external firewire disc to increase the disc space for my
itunes. However, in doing so, copying itunes folders and libraries and
deleting old ones, i have lost the ability to read audio cds: I get
"There are no volumes on this CD that can be read by OSX etc"
messages. It's fine if I reboot in OS9, and CDROMS are OK. Any ideas?
many thanks for any advice.

What do you mean by "copying itunes folders and libraries and deleting
old ones"? There is a right way to move your library, so perhaps there
are wrong ways. Since iTunes is responsible for playing audio CDs, and
since that is the only thing that has failed, it sounds like you may
have disabled iTunes or confused it in some way. Or you confused your
computer's ability to find iTunes (look in your CDs & DVDs preference
pane). m.

Matt, thanks for this - and I apologise for not responding to your
question earlier, ie before posing this question on another group -
rather rude, I know, but I had forgotten I had used this one! I think
you have hit the nail on the head, and I dare say that I have gone
about things the wrong way. I suspect in the light of your comments I
ought to reinstall itunes and see if that helps. I can;t remember the
exact sequence of events regarding the movement of files now, but am
grateful to you for drawing my attention to the cds and dvds prefs
panel, which I had completely overlooked. I will report back. I
promise you that, and thanks again.
