Airport Software on PB G4 Ti 1GHz?

This is an Airport beginner 101 question.

I have a Powerbook G4 Ti. I just erased the HD and installed Panther
10.3.5 (it came with Jaguar).

I don't think I ever installed any Airport Software when I was running
Jaguar. But it did come with an Airport CD.

Now the beginner questions:

Does the Airport card need some software?
How do I know if it is installed?
Should I install the Ti Airport software or install whatever is
downloaded with Software Updates?

Thanks very much.

Any necessary software will have been installed as part of Panther.
This isn't even an option when installing; if you installed Panther, you
installed everything you need to use Airport.

If Software Update tells you there's newer Airport software, you should
probably install it (you've already got the software in question, but
Apple does release new versions now and then).  You don't need to
install anything from the CD.

Thanks.

Being the curious sort, I've been trying to find the Airport software to
check the version but Finds only result in the menu software and the
rest is in the OS 9 Folders. Maybe I'm a bad looker. ;)

Appreciate the help.

Versions are viewable in System Profiler.

OP back.

Hmmm...that was a beginner question of mine. ;) I thought I looked there
before.

However, the only Airport software shown is for the Airport Setup
Assistant and the Airport Admin Utility.

Is that the extent of the software needed for the Airport card?

I was thinking that the Airport card needed something else (driver or ?)
but I'm no techie.

Thanks for the help.

Yup, that's it. Isn't it great?

Drivers are listed in Apple System Profiler under "extensions".  The
Airport ones all have names starting with "AppleAirPort".  You don't
really need to check up on them, but the information's there if you're
interested to know.

The drivers are down in system folders, hidden by the Finder.

Yes.

Drivers for Apple stuff that existed before Panther are pretty much
included in Panther.  The best bet, just try to use the it.  If it
doesn't work, then work on drivers.

It's part of OS X.

> How do I know if it is installed?

Look in /Applications/Utilities, there will be a couple of Airport
utilities, and Internet Connect, which knows about airport.

OS X has all you need.

Don't forget to configure your internet connection in System Preferences.
