I've had my 40Gb click wheel iPod for just a couple of weeks and it's
already getting all scratched up. I use it a lot, but I wonder if I'm
abusing it, or if that's just the price of doing business?
None of the older generation cases work with the click wheel. Can't wait
to see more of them released for this version.
just curious.

You're not abusing it; they mark up really easily. There's a fluid you
can buy that can help buff out some of the scratches. Sorry, can't
remember what it's called; I just remember reading about it in MacAddict
quite awhile ago.

I'm sure that new versions of cases will be along shortly, if they
aren't already available.

It's called "patina" <http://thesaurus.reference.com/search?q=patina>.
Get over it and enjoy the music.

good advice everyone! You know, I have some experience in this sort of
thing... I'm a guitar player, and I've always thought that the first
scratch on a new guitar is the worst. After that, it's all about adding
"character."
On the other hand, I have noticed that scratches on the plastic directly
over the display are distracting, depending on the angle of the light.
I'm definitely gonna find a case for this thing so I can throw it in my
back pocket and forget about it.
thanks all

As my friend said... a scratched, well-used ipod is a happy ipod.

as people age, they often develop wrinkles. It's called character.
same deal with your ipod

Every single Apple product scratches like crazy. Unlike PC users, Mac
users want to keep their stock in great shape because it's initially
very beautiful. However, the plastic, metal and everything else that
Apple uses is sh.t and scratches easily. This was the case of my iBook
that scratched like crazy, my iPod that is ridiculously scratched and
iMacs as well. My Powerbook doesn't scratch as much, but it still
manages to get a few.
Let's face it, our equipment is gorgeous and we don't want to lose any
of its aesthetic value but we have no choice.
