I currently have ATT cellphone service and they want to charge me $40 a month (+a new GSM phone) to check my email. Also, their service coverage for this is very poor. Verizon only wants a one-time $40 for a cable/connectivity pack that will do the job. Problem is their connectivity pack is for Windows only. The local store called their experts and they say that the cable WILL work with Powerbooks but they will not support it and don't know how to make it work. (Or won't tell you.) Their line is "We support ONLY Windows." So... does anybody know how to make that pack work with my Powerbook so I can check my email? Details would be GREATLY appreciated. Depends heavily on the the model of phone. I have Verizon and an LG VX6000. I'm using a cable I bought online although I believe Rat Shack does carry it too. I use a USB driver that someone wrote and a modem script again from an independent source. It works well. I find I usually have to try to connect twice to get a connection. Generally speaking you will need a USB driver and a modem script. Both are specific to your phone and the cable if it is a USB to serial adapter also. I don't recall where I found the stuff but that is how I found it. If Austin Meyer at Laminar Research can develop a the wolds most complete flight simulator simultaneously on OS-X, Windows, and Linux, f.cking Verizon can do it too with their new service. Further if Apple can write a PC I-tunes, f.cking verizon can figure out how to service Macs. I just don't understand the willingness to throw away a segment of the market just because it is small. Further, since we are speaking of laptops, Apple's main concentration these days is on laptops, and I beleive they are the top laptop seller, though I could be wrong. this is a matter of writing drivers (oh! what an industrial pain-in-the-a.s), as the hardware is GSM and CARDBUS. Now we know that Mac's since the Wallstreet have been Cardbus Compliant, so I suspect the "We support ONLY Windows," line is based in so much attempted penis extension via computer Chauvinism. Fact is that these companies and departments are being run by kids/adults whose parents stupidly bought them an IBM PC instead of an Apple ][ or a Macintosh. Otherwise there would be support for Mac at Verizon, as it is only an matter of writing drivers which we have already established as an industrial pain-in-the-a.s. They support mac at Vodafone. Likely because the marketing Director was once the marketing Director at KLM royal Dutch Airlines, which was a Mac organization at the time. I have started asking PC-only stores why they are bothering with selling the Ipod, since they don't seem to care about anything else apple. EJ I agree with you completely! And amazingly, nearly all this stuff is standards based, which doesn't give a rats hiney about whether you're running Redmond Virus Loader on an x86 or YellowDog Linux on a PPC.
