Hi,

Short version:
--------------
iSync keeps on adding duplicate records to my Tungsten|T datebook.  What can
I do?

Long-winded version
----------------------

Background:
I have Tungsten T that I have been using for a long time now and I've always
synced it with my PC laptop with no problems whatsoever.  I got a Mac
Powerbook some months ago and it started off syncing fine.  Isync would sync
it with my Ipod and T68i too, that was pretty cool.

Problem:
Anyway, that did not last long, because one day it started to make duplicate
records of all my datebook entries!  Fortunately I backed my Palm up
previously so I simply reverted to the original state.  But, when I tried to
use iSync again it would again ask me if I wanted to add +1000 'new' records
on me datebook again.  Of course I said 'no' and cancelled the sync.  This
made me avoid using iSync for a long time.

Things I have tried:
1.) I realised that Palm Desktop (PC) has a 'delete duplicate' function, so
I use iSync (knowing it would duplicate all my records).  And then,
Hotsynced it to my PC laptop, where I used the 'delete duplicate' function.
It worked, I used iSync and it got rid of the duplicates.  I thought I
solved my problem and was pretty pleased with myself.  But the problem is,
the NEXT time I used iSync, it wanted to add the duplicate records again!

2.) iSync has a reset records function that resets all devices except the
one you choose is 'right'.  I want to do this and choose my Palm as the
'good' one. The problem is, although it is on the list, it is shaded, so I
can't select it (even though my Palm is physically connected to my
Powerbook).

Anyway, any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,

JS.

Hi,

I just installed MacOS X (10.2 with update to 10.3) on an used
15"-PowerBook G4/400MHz with 1GB of Ram. The Mac is working without any
problems, I installed all available updates and the AirPort-SW 3.4.

There was no AirPort integrated so I bought a macAIR 54Mbps WLAN-Card
(www.mactastic.de) but if I enter it into the PC-Card-Slot nothing happens!

No new hardware, nothing in the system-info and also other PC-Cards
(WLAN, Flash, ISDN, Modem) are not recognized at all :-(

Is it possible that the PC-Card-Slot is defective (the pre-owner said
that his Flash-card was working) or is it possible to make s.th. wrong
during installation/configuration of MacOS X?

I also opend the Mac, checked the pins of the PC-Card-slot and even
tried to put the card into the AirPort-reseved PC-Card-slot without any
result!

Thanks a lot for any answers,

Thorolf

I checked this out and don't see why it shouldn't work.  I never had a
use for my PCMCIA slot on my TiBook 550MHz.  I still haven't had a use
for one on my AlBook 1GHz.  I know this doesn't solve your problem, but
what's the problem with just getting the Airport card for this machine.
I looked up the prices for both and it is about 50% more expensive,
but as a few of us have said recently on another thread "Thinking of an
iBook", the Airport is definitely worth it.  I just wish they had had
given me my old one back when I had my laptop replaced, I'd gladly sell
it to you!  Probably for a much more reasonable price!

As to your problem, it does sound like a possible card slot problem.
- Have you checked the card itself out on another machine?
- Checked the slot with another card, instead of taking the previous
  owner's word for it?
- I doubt it would be a software problem, assuming all of your software
is up to date with Software Update.
- Could be a power issue if the card you bought draws a lot of juice and
the machine is not able to supply it there for whatever reason.
Again, not highly likely, but possible.
- Have you checked over at macfixit.com for a solution?

Sorry I can't be of much more help.  Like I said, I've never used the
PCMCIA slot before.  I'd still recommend trying to return the PCMCIA
card and getting the Airport (you can probably find these pretty
reasonably on eBay).  Try to figure out what's possibly wrong with card
slot with something else.

Good luck,
Jason

Hi Jason

thanks a lot for your answer!

I think so also!

It is recognized in a IBM ThinkPad as WLAN-Card.

Sure, I only have PC-Cards for Intel but if I put them in the
PC-Card-Slot in the PB s.th. SHOULD happen, even without Mac-driver, or?

I tried other WLAN-cards (even some supported by Mac-OpenSource-driver),
modem-card, isdn-card, flash-card but no reaction from MacOS!

Sure!

I'll try it there, thanks a lot!
