Got my G4 iBook (replacement for faulty G3 version) and I need to
stick some RAM in it.

What sources of RAM do you newsgroup regulars recommend? The big Mac
catalog sources are obvious.

I don't suppose the RAM chip from my G3 iBook (700 MHz version from
2003) will work, will it? I had to pull that third-party RAM when I
sent the defective G3 iBook back. If it won't work in the G4 iBook,
guess I'll be selling a 256 MB RAM chip on eBay.

Go Big Blue (Kentucky Wildcats)! Go #15 (Michael Waltrip, NAPA Chevy)!

To reply, just remove the restrictorplates...

I think that the G4 iBooks take DDR memory, so you'll need to buy new.
I'd buy from Crucial.

Took your advice and that of "ian" and ordered from Crucial.
Reasonable prices, free shipping (2nd day), and even though they
charge sales tax, it was less than shipping usually is.

Please reply to the group, not by email.  The email address in the

Definitely go for Crucial - you'll be buying direct from the manufacturer,
and the modules are guaranteed to work in your system. Usually they're
pretty much the cheapest as well...
