New Outlook 2001 Installation, no GAL

Hello,

For years I've been using Outlook 2001 in Classic mode on my iBook under OS
X to access my company Exchange server.

Just got a new PowerBook, and although I am primarily accessing it in
Entourage, I want to have Outlook for the occasional GAL lookups I need to
do. (The Exchange server is not reliably accessible using LDAP.)

My new Outlook 2001 install works fine...except there's no Global Address
List. The GAL is empty, and clicking on a local user generates an "item could
not be found" error.

The Outlook Settings Control Panel has an Outlook Address Book service, but
if I double-click it it doesn't show any Outlook Address Books. In Windows,
I see a "Contacts: Bailey, Adam K" item.

I did not have this problem on my iBook, although I can no longer test it.

My Personal Address Book shows just fine.

Any ideas?

I have the same problem on one system.  the only thing that fixes it i
a complete re-install of the OS.  I know it sucks, but that's the onl
thing that I have found to fix it.

I did get it to see contacts when i created a different profile, but n
GAL.

I'm still working on it

If you are getting the message (Set of folders cannot be opened) or the
Splash screen blinks twice for authentication, and you login successfully
but can't access the GAL.
This has been a pain every since Panther has come out.

Here is how I resolved the issue with my users.

>Clear all of the Outlook/Exchange preferences from the System Folder. (You
want to start from scratch)
>Launch "Outlook Settings" from the Control Panels or inside of "Outlook
Files" Folder
>Setup the user account and check name
>Copy the Exchange Preferences and Outlook Services file from the Outlook
Files folder into the Preference folder of the System Folder
>Launch Outlook and you are done.

This is necessary due to Entourage 2004 w/SP2 still cannot view all of the
GAL users even when you synchronize your contacts regularly.

Let me know if everyone is successful in doing this.
