I would like to use some of the templates that I found on the main Microsoft
site, but I don't know how to import them. Does anyone know how to import
templates made for the windows based program so I can use them with office
2004. Thanks in advance.

Hi Rob,

There's a special section of Microsoft's web site for Mac users who want
templates.  Did you visit this?

http://www.microsoft.com/mac/resources/templates.aspx?pid=templates&browser=
1&app=&group=&category=&template=

When you try to download windows templates sometimes they arrive as programs
instead of templates.  Some of those you can unzip using Stuffit Expander
and extract the goody inside, but mostly they are not usable.

Yah I tried the Mac office website, none of the templates are usable for me.
I see some that are on the windows web site and I figured I would tweak them
for my use. I will keep at it, none of the newer ones seem to work I get an
"in use or invalid document error" when I try to use them. Stuffit will
extract the Cab files but Word will not translate them.

The Word MVP FAQ Site has instructions for using Word for Windows templates
with the Mac version of Word:
<http://word.mvps.org/mac/Using-Windows-Templates.html>

Note that templates designed for Office 2007 for Windows, the latest
version, may not work even after following the instructions.

Which templates are you after?  Anything that results in a .doct or a .docm
is NOT going to work in Mac Word 2004 (should be fine in Word 2008...)

Tell me which one you are after and I will see if I can decode it for you...

Cheers

I may have found a work around I found a program that will decode the .cab
files. I will be buying office 2008, hopefully it allows windows templates
to be used on a mac.

Thanks for your help though, the program that I found is filejuicer, doesn't
do every file but it gets enough for me.

Hi Rob:

Yes, they should be fine, provided the templates do not contain any VBA (or:
Do not need the VBA they contain).

Mac Office 2008 will silently ignore VBA in Windows files.

Cheers

Similarly as John has indicated:
Anytime, If that be of any help, provide here links for the templates
you would like, I will download them on PC, open them and save them as
dot file and put them on net for you. But please give me some time to
do that.
