When I try to open a word document, powerpoint, excel spreadsheet,
etc... I get the same error message, "This operation could not be
completed".  If I then open the correct application (e.g. word) and
then try to open a document, it works fine.  Could someone help... why
isn't the application opening automatically?  and how can I correct
this?

Thanks for your help!

Hello,

Reading through, I gather that the error message is not coming from Office
apps . It is probably a problem in the launch services.
You can try the following and I think it will work :
1. Ctrl + click on the file to get contextual menu
2. click "get info" on the menu
3. go to "open with"
4. choose the correct office application and click change all (To use same
application for all files of that type)
5. close get info
try opening that file now

Please post back if this does not work or if you have other questions
Thanks,
Priyanka
