Apart from Spotlight in Tiger not being able to search Entourage, are
there any major incompatibility issues with Tiger and Office 2004?

None listed except some networking limitations in VPC.

Yes! Entourage 2004 will corrupt attachments such that they are
unreadable by the receiving party. That's a huge problem, obviously.

MS need to get a fix out ASAP! Kind of hard to believe they've had
Tiger for all this time and they didn't have a service pack ready at
launch. Major PITA for their customers.

Not all attachments, or in all instances, obviously - my clients are
getting them just fine. I don't follow the Entourage group regularly -
what problems are you seeing?

In the last week since I installed Tiger I've sent Word docs, Excel
files, jpgs, text files, and pngs, from 2K to 2MB without one complaint.
Many I've sent to myself at a clients, and they came through fine.

Most of the time, I use AppleDouble, occasionally MIME/Base64. I never
use compression.

JE, here's the more relevant Entourage thread:

Hmm..I'm going to post over there and ask about that, because Tiger
definitely broke Stuffit.

I feel left out - I haven't had a problem with it, either...

Maybe it didn't break it, but it's no longer included--so if you do a clean
install, it isn't there anymore.  Can't really remember where I read that,
so here's a more authoritative source.

Ah, ok. I knew about that - but installing Stuffit Expander 9 seems to
work.

Note my simplistic use of "broken" to signify "I have to actively do
something to make this work."  :)

It's not Expander. It's the fact that Panther installed Stuffit Engine,
Entourage installed its own more recent Stuffit Engine (7.0.4) but an Erase
& Install of Tiger no longer installs Stuffit Engine, so Compression won't
work.

To get it to work, you have to either install Stuffit Standard or Deluxe - 8
or 9 - (which costs money if you don't own it already) - or uninstall and
reinstall Office 2004 which installs Stuffit Engine 7.0.4, then do the
updates again.

If you did an Archive & Install of Tiger, you can move the
StuffItEngineShell.cfm file from Previous System 1/Library/CFMSupport/ to
/Library/CFMSupport/ on you startup disk, and re-launch Entourage.

If you did an Upgrade to Tiger, you'll have no problem with Entourage
Compression.

The issue I've been having with corrupt attachments has nothing to do
with Stuffit or compression. I've turned off compression and use
AppleDouble in Entourage 2004.

May I ask what AppleDouble is?
Thanks

It's a method of attachment encoding.  If you look that up in Help,
Entourage gives a decent explanation.

The issue that I have are using Excel 2004 under Tiger.

Can't exit a cell that has a formula in it (Esc doesn't work).
It seems that I edit a cell and I try exiting by clicking another cell
and that cell enters edit mode.
It unusable for most projects.

Chuck
Daiya Mitchell - 11 May 2005 21:21 GMT
Try hitting enter or return. Or tab.  Esc is supposed to exit and cancel
changes, right?

I've never been able to edit a formula, then click in another cell to exit
edit mode, in any version of Excel.  But maybe I am misunderstanding what
you say.

If that doesn't work, post on the excel newsgroup.

I've had major problems with Office ever since installing Tiger, though I'm
not completely sure Tiger is the culprit.  Excel runs at a snails pace - I
have to wait several seconds each time I input any number in a cell.  Also,
both Excel and Word crash (stop responding) when loading them up, without
reason.

Memory should not be an issue; I've got a PowerBook G4 with 1.5GB of ram and
both Word and Excel ran like melting butter on 10.3

I may uninstall Office and re-install, to see if it still has problems.  If
so, will uninstall Tiger and re-install 10.3, to see if that fixes it.   But
before I do so, I was wondering if anyone else had experienced similar
problems?

I'm having similar problems since upgrading to Tiger. Can we be the
only two people experiencing these symptoms?
mugzemet@gmail.com - 18 May 2005 05:40 GMT
Hello,
I'm not able to open any office application since i've upgrade.
I do get the menu, but after a while the app no longer responding and i
need to force quit it.
