I have installed the MAC office into my application folder. But when I
click onto any of the MS files direct from my personal folder, an error
msg 10660 appear. the MS software just don't launch. However if I first
start off any of the MS program, and then I click onto the file in my
folder, I could launch the file. Can anyone advise how I can resolve
this? Thanks.

Hi,
Using following:
-Mac OS X 10.3.8 &
-Microsoft Office X

I have another question:
- I plug in an external hard disk thru' USB but my Mac can't detect the
device.
- I tried to install the external HDD driver but my Mac need the
Classic environment to run the installer.
- When the classic folder opened up, another window pops up saying "No
Classic system folder" and was advised to install Mac OS9.1 or later.
- Should I install Mac OS 9? Will that override my current Mac OS X ?

Pls advise.
FYI, I have just switch from PC, so really lost with some of this.
Thanks

Check the website of the manufacturer and see if there is an OS X driver for
the external hard disk.  There ought to be.

Don't install Classic, or not yet, anyhow.

Re your original post, try this first:
Do an cmd-I (apple button and I) on a Word file, for Get Info.  Expand the
Open With panel in the Info window.  Set Open With to Word X, and click on
Change All, to make Word the default app to open Word documents.

Repeat for Excel and PowerPoint.  See if the programs will now launch if you
double-click.

Got another issue that need yr help. I have install Adobe 7.0 prior to
the MS office. Hence the pdf converter icon is not found in the MS
software. Do I have to reinstall the Adobe in order to have the icon in

Sam,

I can't provide the answer to your PDF problem -- sorry -- but I can help by
mentioning that it helps to post a new problem under a new title.  Some of
the people who provide answers here scan many posts a day, and they won't
pick up that "Can't open MS files ..." was your original post 2 questions
ago.  If you compose a subject heading that encapsulates the problem (e.g.
at least mentions PDF), you'll be more likely to get a response from experts
in that field.

Cheers,

Clive Huggan
