A few months ago, I installed Office 2004 for Mac on my computer. I
previously had Office Test Drive on my computer, so now when I receive
a Word attachment in an email, it automatically tries to open the Test
Drive application instead of the correct Word application. I looked
online, and saw that I was supposed to remove the Test Drive before
installing, which I obviously didn't do. What can I do to fix this
now?
Also, I started using Entourage as my main email client, but when I
click an online email link, it opens my old Mail server. Can I change
the preferences to make Entourage my preferred program?
I believe if you look in the Additional Tools folder in the Office 2004
folder, you should be able to run the Remove Office application and tell it
to Remove the Test Drive only.
However, if you do cmd-I on a word file icon, you should be able to change
the Open With program to regular Office 2004 instead of the Test Drive, to
eliminate the specific problem you mention.
To set Entourage as default, you need to change the setting in the
preferences for Mail (totally illogical, I hate that Apple did this).

Actually it all writes in the internet config database. Apple just
removed the interface to set up these options (and I hate that too BTW).
You can still access and set the Net Info Database through third party
applications. For that kind of things I use IC-Switch (freeware) from
the exceellllleeennnt Philippe Martin:

See, that's the kinda behavior that just makes me furious at apple. 90%
there, but just leaving you hanging for that last little 10%.

It's worst than that. The interface *WAS* there. It was removed in 10.2
or 10.3 (I don't remember).

Although I've not tried it, I've read that you can manually copy/install the
Internet System Pref Pane from Jaguar and it will work fine in Panther.

Thanks for the tip :-) Hopefully there are also more complete (and free)
options out there. I was already pretty unhappy with the very limited
list of options we had in Jaguar....

I suggest that you fully remove Office Test drive using the Remove Office
utility. There is no reason to keep it on once you have the full version and
leaving it on can cause the problems you described as well as others.
Unfortunately, there is no Remove Test Drive Only option within the Remove
Office Utility. You will need to choose Microsoft Office 2004 (including
Test Drive) then reinstall Office 2004.

I was wondering! Thanks for the correction. Before removing Office 2004,
see here for what you might want to back up.

Thanks. Much editing by Beth to get it to that point.
