Unexpected end of file

I found help at Microsoft Knowledge Base from the following articles:

(compacting and rebuildind the database)

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;[LN];248335

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;[LN];296844

Following these instruction the problem was resolved, however, it
occured again. I repeated the steps. Now I am unable to view any old
messages or my address book.

I have found in the Identities folder:
Old Database, Old Database Cache, Old Messages

If I remove the word "old" from each of these and substitute these for
the existing files, then launch Outlook, my messages and address book
are now visible, however, I cannot read any of the messages or view
folders.

Can anyone tell me how to resolve this.

thank you

Try the complex rebuild process if you haven't already (assuming you are
using OE 5.02 or later).  If that doesn't work, I'd say that your data has
been lost.

Thank You for taking the time to respond to my problem. If I follow
your advice, should I rebuild with the existing:
Database, Database Cache, and  Messages files plus the old files OR
rebuild using the
Old Database, Old Database Cache, Old Messages and remove the word
"old" from the files and move the current files out of the Identites
folder?? I would assume to do this because the old folders contain all
the messages and the address book. Would I be rebuilding the old
database? Is there a way to retreive only the address book??

I also read way back from an older post taking the messages and moving
them to the desktop. The message said:

Instead, drag your messages out of the Inbox directly onto your
Desktop (or other folder) to save them as .EML files, then drag those
files into the
corresponding Inbox of the new Identity.

Thank you again in advance

The latter method is the one to go for.

Yes.

No.

Yes, if you can get back into OE after a successful rebuild, then the
messages can be backed up through this drag & drop method.

OK  Did the rebuild...did not work at first

tried an experiment...moved the old messages and database folders
in(removed the word old) kept the new cache folder...it
worked...exchanged the new/old cache folders...still worked..I'm happy

I guess the rebuild helped after all.

Now...How can I add or merge the month of new messages to the
old(retreived) messages

many thanks in advance

I Spoke too soon ...the rebuild did not work as well as I thought.
mostly all of the old messages cannot be opened...a window opens with a message:

The end of file was reached

Back to square one

A pretty surefire sign that one or both of the Messages and Database files
are damaged, or that you weren't using the right pairing of Messages and
Database files when carrying out the compact/rebuild process.

Either way, I don't see how you can get your mailbox content back.
