Outlook Express export lockup...

I think I've narrowed my problem to a corrupt database file, but
everything works fine until I try to export my contact list for use
elsewhere.  I'm running a G4 466 with lots of ram, OE 5.0.6 on system
9.2.2.  When I remove the database file from the identities folder and
let OE make a new one, I can make test entries and export them fine.
My address book has 257 entries and I save a lot of e-mails so my file
is 8.2 MB.  Does size have anything to do with this?  I've tried
re-installing OE, removing internet preferences file from system
folder. I even thought to import the database file (remove the old
one, restart OE, let it make a new DB file then import the old one
from it's new location) thinking it would re-build itself.  I kept
getting a message asking me to locate a folder called "OE user(s)".
Doing a search for this folder finds nothing.  Any other ideas???
Thanks in advance for any help...

You shouldn't separate your Messages and Database files as they are closely
linked with one another, so I wouldn't let OE make a new Database file if I
were you.

Have you tried the normal compact routine...?

Thanks Ricky,
Any other ideas... While reducing my file sizes greatly, it still
locks up on export. Here's what I did: 1) threw out lots of old mail.
2) Did first a compact data and after it loicked up on export again,
did a complex compact. Original DB size 8.4MB --> compacted to 3.6MB
---> 3.3 after complex.  Mail started at 164MB --> 58.5 and stayed at
58.5 after complex.
It still locks up when I try to export contacts and doesn't lock up
when I remove the database & mail files and let OE remake them, add
small amts of data, and export.  Any other Ideas?
Thanks for your help.

Try to increase the memory allocation to OE and then try the export again...

There is a manual workaround as well which should work if the normal export
method fails.  Simply open the address book and then drag the names of each
contact out onto the Desktop.  This will save your contacts as individual
"clipping" files that can be opened and viewed within the Finder.  If you
wish to restore these contacts back into OE at a later date, you just need
to drag the clipping files from the Desktop (or wherever you decide to put
them)  back into the address book window.  I've just now tested this on OS
9.1 with OE 5.0.5 and it worked fine.

Should this method not work (I can't see why it shouldn't, but let's indulge
the standard pessimism anyway) then your only other option may be to import
the information into another mail client such as Entoruage or Mail.app in OS
X.

Ricky,
I forgot to tell you but I have already increased the preferred size
to 20000K.

The clipping idea only takes the name and e-mail. (unless I'm doing it
wrong...I'm opening the address book and dragging the "head" out to
the desktop.)  I have addresses and mutlple phone numbers in these
records that I am trying to get to a Palm.  I also can't seem to get
the "sync to palm" function to work either, but haven't tried much yet
because there is too much duplicate info from other sources I've
already put into it.

Looks like I'll be doing some typing soon...I'll try the import idea
with another program and see if that will help.
