Disk is full

Does anybody else get a disk is full error box appear when trying to
retrieve emails that are over about 1mb in size?

Try to compact the database and give it another try...

Also make sure that you are not trying to store messages remotely on the
mail server, as you may perhaps be over your mailbox quota.

We have had disk full error 34 on Mac OE5.0.6 when

Its actually the cache file thats full (The error message
calls it disk)

Firstly make sure all your unwanted email is deleted from
Deleted Items and Sent Items and any others that are not
required.

Then open up Internet Eplorer which controls many of OE's
background features.

Open preferences and select Advanced, empty the cache and
then increase the cache to at least 50mb. OK out of IE
and close it.

(our cache is set to 300mb as all our mail over a month
with file attachments can mount up)
