Hi all

I have a wierd problem with OE 5.0.6 on MacOS 8.6. whenever the user
tries to send/receive they gat a dialog popping up saying
"unable to retrieve mail, a network error has occurred (-1309)"
At the start this only happened when trying to download large messages
(ie >100K) and ticking the 'partially retrieve messages greater than
20K' box in the POP advanced settings allowed other mail to be delivered.
Now no mail at all comes in.

I have tried trashing the TCP/IP prefs and the MacTCP DNR file and
recreating them with no effect.

I have tried setting up the account to use IMAP rather than POP and while
IMAP downloads all the headers the content of any mail larger than 1K
will not be displayed.

I have tried reinstalling OE from the .smi file and recreating the
preferences for it.

I have tried using these mail accounts on another Mac and they download
fine so it's not a server problem.

I have tried connecting via telnet from the broken mac to the mail server
and retr ing the messages and they download just fine in telnet.

At this stage I'm at a loss, short of installing the entire OS again
(which I shouldn't have to do) or switching to Eudora I can't think of
anywhere else to look.

Any help would be appreciated.

What happens if you make a new Identity within OE and configure your mail
accounts within there?  Does that also produce the same error?

No it doesn't so it's a profile based problem. Having relised that I
compacted the database and message files and suddenly everything was
working again.
Thanks for your help.
