Whenever I turn on Outlook Express, I get the message "Spelling could
not be initialized because initiation of English (U.S.) dictionary
failed." It tells me to select a different language using the Spelling
panel in Preferences. But when I click on Preferences, I see the
Spelling tab, but I can't click on it. What can I do to solve this
problem and get rid of this message?

I've had the same problem for months and posted here for help, but have no
resolution so far.  One thing is consistant in the advice and that is that
you need a spell check program independent from OE because it has no
dictionary/check of it's own.  I have Office 98/Word but I still get the
same message you do. Apparently OE somehow stopped recognizing it's
presence.

I have considered upgrading to Office 2001 because I want to switch to
Entourage anyway (since Microsoft has stopped supporting OE Express for Mac)
and am hoping that the same problem would not surface with 2001.
