cannot open emails

I have used OE for years, but now I can receive emails, but cannot open them.
When I click on an email, the subject shows on the bar at the bottom of the
screen but they do not open.  I cannot type in a new message to send.  I
cannot open any of the previous messages.
I reset the system settings to a date before this started (and it showed
that there had been no changes) that didn't help.
Would really appreciate your help.
Thanks!

Move the preferences to the Desktop, (if you are using a Mac, which is this
newsgroup), and try again.
Next delete the MS internet cache files,
Maybe here;
