Can anybody give any information as to what causes multiple copies of the
same email message to be downloaded into OE6?

What are any possible remedies?

This is a problem that has been occuring for some time now and is not
confined to just one IP or email service - so far I have had this problem in
the following services:

hotmail (dialup through bizmail.com.au)
bigpond.com (broadband)
bizmail.com.au (dialup)
aapt.com.au (broadband)

Note: this is not just duplication but multiple, as in 4 - 6 copies of each
email, copies. Since this problem spans a number of providers I don't think
that it is IP problem - but I could be wrong.

any suggestions/remedies/explanations etc would be most welcome.

You could try the OE6 newsgroup, rather than the mac one, you'd have a
chance of a better response.
