Archive attributes for Outlook Express .dbx Files

I'm using the XP backup utility to backup personal data and outlook express
files.  I use a combination of normal (run occasionally) and differential
(daily) backups.  The normal backup includes all files selected, and the
differential backup includes only files modified since the previous normal
backup.  To establish which files the differential backup includes, the
backup utility checks whether the archive attribute is set on each file.  If
the archive attribute is set then this indicates that the file has been
modified since the last normal backup and should be included in the
differential backup.

I am finding problems with the outlook express .dbx files when performing a
differential backup as not all the .dbx files get marked with the archive
attribute, even when they have been modified and show as such in the date
modified entry.  The only way that I have found to force the attribute to set
is to compact folders before closing outlook express.  This, however, is far
from convenient and is unlikely to be supported by other users on the
computer.  Besides which, my intention is to use daily scheduled differential
backups, running in the background, to make sure that all users' data is
protected.

Can anyone advise please?

Why use that on a Mac? (This is a Mac newsgroup)
Perhaps you could try asking in a non-Mac newsgroup?
Such as;
