I have been emailing from my OE (set up for my gmail) to a bigpond.net
account for months now.  Suddenly a few weeks ago on my desktop (which I had
to use as the laptop was in for repair) these emails were not being received
or were being received hours later.  I can email everyone else and can even
email the same bigpond account directly from gmail on the Google page.  I can
still receive emails in from the bigpond account onto OE.  Then last week I
received the laptop back and it has worked fine until this morning when again
the emails were not being received.  I have switched off AVG email scanner
and this makes no difference. PLEASE HELP......its driving me mad as the
bigpond address relates to work (and in simple terms please!!!! I'm not a
computer whizz)

GeneGenie,
Have you tried contacting BigPond?

You don't specify if your emails have any attachment - Bigpond has a size
limit for attachments (From memory it's about 4mb - but here's the catch -
they calculate each 1 mb as being 1000kb not 1024kb) after which they strip
the attachment from the email (?). Re your time delay - could be busy server
etc. or perhaps problems with their email server - contact their 24/7 support
center by phone and talk with a tech. btw could your emails be virus infected
without you knowing?

Have a nice day

Thanks GP but I have contacted Bigpond and they basically said that as Gmail
is free then ÿou get what you pay for"!........no more help than that  My
antivirus/e-mail scanner is working OK so there shouldn't be any problem
there.  And no there are no attachements..........some of them were literally
one-liners (as a test) It's weird that it only appears to be through OE as if
I go on to the Google site and enter Gmail from there, they go straight
through. Any more ideas?  Thanks for bothering to reply!

Ok, that's understandable - GMail is not one of their services.

But can I ask a question? If you are using Bigpond as an IP why don't you
use your bigpond email service? I know its a hassle to notify all your
contacts re change of email address - I know, I'm still in the process of
doing that - but I've had no trouble with my emails.

I have never used GMail so I can't comment on that (but perhaps there's a
bit of a smell of the rat here - competition and all that), but I have used a
number of other free email services (Hotmail - 3+ accounts, only one not
accessible thru OE, Yahoo email - not accessible thru OE, Lycos email - not
accessible thru OE) plus 2 with my dial-up IP without any hassles. I don't
think I have ever lost an email even though I do a lot of email transfers to
my hotmail account that I can access thru OE.

Like I said why not use your bigpond email account, after all, you are
paying for it in your monthly fee.

have a nice day

btw: i've just done a quick count and just realised that I actually have
about 11 email accounts spread across various services - nothing like having
a few accounts to channel unwanted emails to particularly when web sites
demand an email address before you can download from them.

My husband has the designated Bigpond e-mail address & I don't see why I have
to pay for another one!  But thanks for the suggestion........guess I'll just
have to use his if I need to e-mail anyone with Bigpond in future

What, a dollar month for an additional email account too much to ask, or is
it just the principle?

Principle I suppose!  Plus the fact that all other e-mails work just fine so
setting up another account and advising everyone is too much of a pain!
Luckily I only have 1 Bigpond contact and I have set OE up for both Gmail &
Bigpond.  It was just the fact that it all used to work perfectly well until
a few weeks ago.  Such is life!  Thanks again for all your help
