Rebuilding the Identity Preferences File
The most common cause of the error messages in the "Symptoms" section
of this article is a damaged preferences file for the currently
selected identity. This preferences file stores the settings for the
accounts and other settings for the identity. The default location for
identities is:
Drive:Documents:Microsoft User Data:Identities
NOTE: Your installation may be in a different path than the default
path. When you perform the following steps, locate the Identities
folder by using the correct path to that folder on your computer.
To rebuild the identity preferences file:
1. Quit Outlook Express if Outlook Express is currently running.
Locate the preferences file in the currently active identity.
2. Place the preferences file in the Trash on the Macintosh desktop.
3. Start Outlook Express again. The Setup Assistant rebuilds the
account for this identity.
